Brahmin’s Coffee Bar Shankarpuram Bangalore

One of the benefits of waking up early on a saturday morning on the excuse of jogging is meeting friends at one of the oldest and yummiest South Indian breakfast places in Bangalore – Brahmin’s Coffee Bar.

About Brahmin’s Coffee Bar:

Located in the south-central part of Bangalore or Bengaluru in Shankarpuram, Brahmin’s Coffee Bar was started in 1965 by late Sri K V. Nageshwar Adiga alias Nagesh Rao and offers only 5 items:

Idly, Vada, Khara Bath, Kesari bath, KaapiΒ  and Tea ; NO SAMBAR – only chutney.

Currently it is run by Mr.Radhakrishna Adiga; It is said that he would remember one’s regular order just by looking the customer’s face; Although now, one has to buy a token and collect the food from another counter owing to the heavy crowd and some miserable souls who never used to pay.

But their most popular offering is Khara Bath flooded with coconut-coriander chutney and filter kaapi; Yes they brew one of the best filter coffee or kaapi in Bangalore and anyone who has tasted it cannot say no to another cup – unless the queue to collect the kaapi is long most ofΒ  the time – Touch wood, a stampede for coffee has never happened πŸ˜›

Annapoorna Hotel – Kollegal, Chamarajanagar

PS: This place has been closed down 😦 Β – Updated on March 03 2016

There can be only two reasons if everyone points to only one place to eat when one enters a new town – Either it is the only place to eat or it is too good to not to miss; Annapoorna Hotel in Kollegal, Chamarajanagar district falls in the latter category.

Although I was told not to miss the Masala Dosa (which I did – means another pending visit πŸ˜€ ), it was the Chow chow bath as popularly referred in Bangalore which keeps the taste buds busy!!

Chow chow Bath is a combination of Khara bath (cooked rava with spices) and Kesari bath (sweetened rava with cashew, raisins and sometimes pineapple too) – which is a must try at 20 INR/plate.

Vasudev Adiga’s Jayanagar

Vasudev Adiga’sΒ  chain of restaurants are undoubtedly one of the most popular destinations for vegetarian South Indian food serving up fast food, north indian food, fresh juices and many such stuff.

But their USP is Authentic South Indian breakfast such as the Idly, Uddin Vada, Dosa etc ; Stopping by for breakfast after a short sunday ride makes it a ‘Perfect Sunday Ride‘ πŸ™‚

About Vasudev Adiga’s :

The restaurant was started by Mr. K N Vasudev Adiga, who was an engineer by profession back in 1994 – Popularly known as Adiga’s.Β  It was an off-shoot from the famous and still existing Brahmin’s Coffee Bar in Chamarajpet, Bangalore; in fact Brahmin’s Coffee Bar was started by Vasudev Adiga’s father,Β late Sri K V. Nageshwar Adiga, alias Nagesh Rao. way backΒ  in 1965.

Enough of history, lets get back to the food – which was Tasty andΒ  Hygienic. I love the Khara bath and the crisp vadas make life so good πŸ™‚

First always start with the Khara bath and end with the vada dipped in unlimited sambhar ( I can drink till eternity, it tastes that good, glad they don’t charge for the extra serving πŸ˜› )
